It is an adjective and a slang word. It is said that “エモい“ comes from the rock music genre “emo“ or “emotional“. It doesn’t only mean “emotional“, but also your feelings that are difficult to put in a word, such as being “nostalgic“ and “sentimental“. It is often used to show your impression and the way you feel about the music and the photos.

Even if you don’t want to use slang, it is worth memorizing because you can understand what other people try to convey.

Ken is talking about the movie that he watched last night.

Did you watch ...umm...what is the title of the classic movie that was showing on TV yesterday?
  • Leo:「
Are you talking about “The Shawshank Redemption“?
  • Ken:
Yeah, that’s right. The last part of it was really emotional!
Wait! Don't tell me what happens! I recorded it, but I haven’t watched it yet!
Meg and Amy are driving while listening to the radio.

  • Meg:
I like this song! It gets me into the holiday spirit.
This is good, but it makes me feel so emotional. I was listening to it when I broke up with Kei. I liked me, but it didn’t work out. We went back to being just friends. I wonder if it's really possible for men and women to be just friends.
  • Meg:
I’m not sure, but I want to believe in that kind of relationship.
