焦る[aseru]: to get upset

"焦る" is a verb and it means "to get upset". It is used when you are in a hurry or you feel panicked because you cannot do something that you have planned. "テンパる" is the slang of "焦る".

I just got up, but I have to go to work in 20 minutes. OMG, I'm like a zombie! I have to take a shower and do my makeup. I'm freaking out!
今起きたけど、あと20分で会社に行かなきゃ。ギャー、ゾンビみたい!シャワーを浴びて、メイクをしなきゃ。やばい、テンパって(or焦って)いる!
There are only three days left until the exam. I'm getting nervous because I've not started studying yet.
試験まであと三日しかない。まだ勉強していないから、焦るよ。

Ken always makes mistakes when he feels pressed for time.
ケンは焦る(orテンパる)と、すぐミスをする。

Ken and Leo are preparing for the meeting that starts at 3PM.

  • Ken : How much longer is it going to take?
    あとどれくらいで、出来そう?
  • Leo : I'm going through these materials and then I have to print them out...It'll take an hour. I’m feeling a bit under pressure in case I don't finish before the meeting starts.
    資料を見直して、印刷して...あと一時間くらいかかる。会議に間に合わなかったらと思うと、焦るよ。
  • Ken : Don't worry. I will help you so you can get to the meeting on time.
    大丈夫。手伝うし、間に合うよ。
Meg and Amy are talking about their friend.

  • Meg : Did you hear that Kumi is getting married next month?
    来月クミが結婚するって聞いた?
  • Amy : Yeah. I'm jealous of you guys. I am the only one who doesn't have a partner. I'm desperate.
    うん、二人ともいいな。相手がいないのは私だけか。焦るな。
